Takes the "In Death" series to a new level

In "Survivor In Death," the tough and brilliant Lieutenant Eve Dallas is, as usual, trying to find a diabolically clever murderer who has committed a horrible and brutal murder. The catch is, this time, is that the survivor of the attack, a small child named Nixie Swisher, attaches herself to Eve and ends up living in her home while Eve tries to figure out who killed her family.

I thought this was brilliant. We get to see Roarke struggling, with his own desire to "fix" everything, as well as seeing them both out of their depth with "normal family life." A potential tension is introduced into their relationship - he wants children, and she's not ready to even think about it. The other characters, including Summerset, show different sides of their personalities, and Nixie was great, funny and very believable. It's also nice to see Peabody and McNab getting along so well and Peabody growing into her role as Eve's partner.

I don't agree with the other readers that Eve should be "nicer" and should have gotten over her trauma already. It's refreshing to read a novel in which abuse issues are addressed realistically (well, except for the gorgeous, billionaire husband part). I also find myself wondering when and if Eve will EVER be ready to have children, what that would take, and how she would get there. At this point, I can't imagine it, which may be exactly what Ms. Robb wants.

I really like what she's doing with this genre and can't wait for the next installment.

Not Her Best But Entertaining!

I have been a fan of the "In Death" Series written as J.D. Robb. I wish every police officer could be as tireless as Eve Dallas is.

The novel contained the usual cast: Peabody, Summerset, Roarke, McNab, Baxter, Feeney, Trueheart and others. Cops fear her and are very dedicated because of her.

This story is about a family (The Swishers) and how they were massacred in bed at 2 in the morning. This included the housekeeper, Inga. Nobody knows why they were murdered but there is a survivor. The daughter who got out of bed for an Orange Fizzy even though she was not supposed to. Her friend was sleeping over (Linnie) and the murderers thought that she was Nixie Swisher. Now, Nixie Swisher loses her family for some unknown reason. Eve takes her home with her for witness protection. She does not have any maternal instincts. Roarke is a better caregiver. Summerset is a natural at taking care of Nixie and for some reason, Nixie wants to be around Eve Dallas.

I liked the book because it involved a new facet for Eve Dallas. The possibility of having a child with Roarke. It brought back a lot of painful memories for her and Roarke but it would be an interesting twist.

I only gave the book 4 stars because it went into Eve's and Roarke's past ad nauseum. I was getting tired of Eve barking at everyone especially Peabody and Summerset. I should expect this but it seems to be the same for every book.

I recommend this to people who have never read the "In Death" Series. The book is easy to pick up because it fills you in about the background of the characters so, you will not be lost. It is a quick read that is entertaining. I look forward to more of her "In Death" Books.

Great read

I consider Survivor in Death which is the latest story in the In Death series to be by far the most sensational, thrilling, fast-paced, chilling, and rich in plot . It brought memories of DISCIPLES OF FORTUNE.This book follows the death of an entire family, with the sole survivor being Nine-year-old Nixie Swisher. So, Lt Eve Dallas leads a team that not only works hard to ensure that Nixie stays alive, but also carries out a diligent pursuit to uncover the killer. Serious in content but also rich in humor, tragedy, loyalty, drama, mystery and sex, this is a book that is difficult to put aside. The moment you start, you get hooked. One thing for sure is that you will laugh, shed a tear or two and smile in turns, because this is a compelling and provocative story. This is a sure keeper.
