it doesn't suck
Tolle is a smart guy with helpful insights. The bulk of his "teachings" are nothing new. The philosophical traditions of various religions are represented in his thought, illustrating their universality. The ideas, extracted from their theological and cultural matrices are made more relevant and accessable. Sometimes, the guy just sounds too new-agey goofy. Nobody's perfect, I guess. But overall, I find this work has provided me with helpful perspective(s) on my life and on approaching challenging or difficult situations.
Gurdjieff said it before Tolle did
I have the book The Power of Now, published by New World Library.
In the front, it says that the librafy of congress catalogued the book in in 1948. Perhaps this is a misprint. But even if it were supposed to be 1998, Namaste publishing shows it in 1997.
At any event, I have no quarrel with its contents, except that it has all been said before, by Gurdjieff who plagiarized it from still other authors centuries before him. Gurdjieff died in 1949.
This is old, old stuff.
Carlos Castenada said it all.
Yogananda Paramahansa said it all.
Literally thousands of men before Yogananda, said it all.. ad infinitum, ad nauseum..
Go with Power of Now audio book instead
Alas, I can't recommend this collection.
There is nothing in this Audio Collection that isn't available more succinctly in the original Power of Now, a book that I consider a true, elegant masterpiece.
I've given my original copy away and listen to the audio version when I drive, which has become a very rich part of my day.
