Customer Reviews

very well done, just one complaint

I was very pleasantly surprised by this production. I was expecting it to be more like the horrible T.V. specials put out in the late 80's. These readings were very well done. I listened to every single one, and even got copies for my best friend(another narnia fan)

My only complaint was David Suchet as Aslan. I thought he was way over the top and his voice was too weak and high pitched. He just didn't convey the power that I thought you should hear when Aslan speaks. My favorite was the first one. I felt that the children reading for Polly and Diggory were wonderful. Their reading caused me to notice things that I hadn't caught in my numerous readings of the book.

In all, I think that it is very worth your time to check this series out.

Enjoyable series = Enjoyable radio production

The chronicles of Narnia, a timeless classic. These cd's of this radio theatre production of The Chronicles of Narnia are very very enjoyable. They've taken wonderful stories and did a very good job in turning into a radio theatre, leaving very little out, and I mean very little. I read a few of these books when I was younger, remembering bits and pieces, then I listened to these CD's and really enjoyed them. So I thought, I'll go back and read again, (since the book versions are usually better). What I found was that the creators of this production did a masterful job catching every little piece of the story and developing all the characters just as well as the books themselves did, I was really quite surprised.

I also like what this production added to the stories that you don't get when you read them. With this version, you get the thunderous voice of Aslan and his prodigious roar, adding some power. You get sounds and music that add to the story. You get a very good narrator who grows on you as you journey through the seven books (there's something about his voice, when he describes what is going on in the story you get a very very vivid picture, it's quite wonderful). You get a very relaxed way to enjoy a very good story. The convenience of this set is what I really enjoy. I am a pizza delivery driver, and I listen to a lot of music while I work. This series gave me a very good break from all that and kept me on my toes in the store waiting anxiously to leave so I could find out what was going to happen to Eustice or Jill or any of the many characters throughout the series.

This production is something you could listen to over and over again. I'm sure that if you're reading this review you have some familiarity with the books or else you'd be reading a review for the books themselves, so I dont need to praise the greatness of the stories themselves, which are very very good. Overall, these great stories plus a very well done audio theatre production equals a CD set I promise you would enjoy. I know me and my whole family have. Thank you for your time and always remember, don't take my word for it, go find out for yourselves, you won't be disappointed.

Awesome

I was struck by the richness of detail, the sound effects and the depth of the acting. I was a big fan of the Lord of the Rings production put on in 1983 by the BBC Radio. It was amazing, and this was no exception. I was amazed by the depth of the acting and the actors involved.

I highly recommened this production.
