Great Read
Iam A Celtic fan and a basketball junkie. This book is a must read for both the young and old basketball fan. Written by an accomplished sports writer who wrote at least 16 books already. Lots of information and interesting stories about the NBA before and now. Made me crave for more of Red's stories and opinions regarding issues in the NBA, players, coaches and GM's. Overall a great story of a legendary coach, a one of a kind GM and team president and most of all a great man.
Now you might wonder why i gave it only 4 stars instead of 5? Its because the writer mentioned towards the end of the book that the Boston Celtics lost to the Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Semi Finals in 2003. They did not lose to the Pistons but to the New Jersey Nets. The author should have researched or asked Red before putting this on the book. It only happend recently so there was no excuse for the "boo boo". But overall one of the best sports book i read.
A must have
I have always enjoyed reading John Feinstein books, The Last Amateurs, The Punch....this book, Let me tell you a story, draws you into the inner circle of Red Auerbach and gives you an insight into the opinions and memories of coach Red, told in such a way that you feel like your sitting in on the conversations or better still, like you witnessed the events personally. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, a great read.
A Must Read
If you grew up a basketball fan, or a fan of the Celtics in particular, this book is a must read. I grew up watching the Bulls dynasties, and I loved this book. John Feinstein remains the premier sports book writer with this one. Great book!
