Shift Happens!
As someone who does The Work for a living, I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who is open to living a truly joyous and peaceful life. It is as clear, concise, funny, and no-nonsense as Katie herself. The examples of The Work in action are inspiring and revelatory, bringing me to deeper levels of understanding and appreciation of this simple yet profound process. For those of you reading this review who have also made a career out of The Work, even if you have been practicing for many years, have attended many events with Katie, and are a graduate of The School, this book can help you sharpen your skills as a facilitator and enliven your own personal process with The Work.
In my experience, just a few hours of doing The Work is more effective than years of psychotherapy. Observing the power it has to allow people to heal lifelong wounds and release negative belief-systems never fails to amaze and inspire me. "I Need Your Love--Is It True?" is a wonderful book for those new to The Work, as well as for those who have been doing it for years.
profound and useful
This book is an invaluable guide in the journey of self-deiscovery in relationship. I particularly found useful her questions for "turning around" the usual responses we have to our partners "flaws". Awesome book.
Awaken the Magic In Your Relationships
After enjoying Katie's first book, "Loving What Is," I purchased this one. A very good purchase indeed. In reading and doing the exercises presented in this book, I began to look at where I had learned to put forward a false image of myself, in order to please or get approval from others. In looking at the many ways I was taught to be a "better me," a spark of life awoke me to the reality that I am perfect just the way I am. And that trying to gain others' love and approval based on a false reality could never be truly enriching or satisfying. I also found Katie's method of questioning my thoughts empowering; she suggests looking to see if the thoughts are either true, or to see what purpose they were serving me. This simple method revealed to me that my thoughts are not necessarily what I truly feel or want in my relationships.
Another book that has enlivened all my relationships is called "Working On Your Relationship Doesn't Work" and is written by Ariel & Shya Kane. The Kanes present a simple yet remarkably profound approach for discovering and maintaining loving, enriching relationships with yourself and others. Through personal experiences and insights, the Kanes offer keys to having your relationships go from ordinary to extraordinary. I highly recommend both of these inspiring relationship books to all readers.
